Startup Success: Alumni Raise Millions for Young Companies

Columbia Business School alumni are having lots of success in the startup world.

Sally Krawcheck '92BUS has raised $10 million to launch a new digital investment platform for women.

Fortune reported the platform's fundraisers include big-time names in finance, including Ajay Banga, president and CEO of Mastercard, and Brian Finn, former president of Credit Suisse First Boston.

"It's time to turn our attention to another gender gap: the investing gap," Krawcheck said in a statement, according to Fortune. "It's time to give women an investing experience built specifically for them."

Fellow alumni Ryan Petersen '08BUS and Sanne Manders '08BUS also have something to celebrate.

The friends, who met at Columbia, founded freight startup, Flexport, which is among dozens of companies attracting Silicon Valley's attention. Investors are funding plans to take the low-tech business of arranging cargo shipments online, The Wall Street Journal reported

According to the Journal, Founders Fund, backed by Paypal co-founder Peter Thiel, led a $20 million round of funding for Flexport.

This comes after a $6.6 million round in 2014, led by Google Ventures.
